In New England in the early 1970s, a disliked teacher at a prep school is put in charge of supervising students with nowhere to go for the Christmas holidays. In the process, Paul Hunham (Paul Giamatti) is forced to deal with a brainy but damaged troublemaker and forms an unlikely bond with the school's head cook, a woman who just lost a son in the Vietnam War.

The complex love story of the lifelong relationship between American conductor-composer Leonard Bernstein (Bradley Cooper) and Costa Rican-Chilean actress Felicia Montealegre (Carey Mulligan). Directed by Bradley Cooper, the film also stars Matt Bomer, Maya Hawke and Sarah Silverman.

SOCIETY OF THE SNOW | NETFLIX
Spain’s entry in the 96th Academy Awards is a faithful retelling of the 1972 crash in the snow-covered Andes of an airplane carrying a rugby team and their family members and friends. Based on the book of the same name, the Spanish-language film (with English subtitles) gives voice to those who perished as well as those who survived.

AMERICAN FICTION | ORION PICTURES/ AMAZON MGM STUDIOS
In this comedy, a novelist gets fed up with the establishment profiting from entertainment that relies on outrageous ethnic stereotypes. To prove his point, Thelonious Ellison (Jeffrey Wright) uses a pen name to write an outlandish "Black" book of his own, a book that propels him to the madness he claims to disdain. Also stars Skyler Wright, John Ales, Issa Rae, Tracee Ellis Ross, Leslie Uggams and Sterling K. Brown.
